Edith M. Carter
Edith M. Carter, 87, of Grove City, formerly of Middlebourne, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at Mt Carmel- Grove City Hospital.
Edith was born in Fairview, Ohio, the daughter of the late Orville and Mildred (Hughes) Whitsell.
She was a graduate of Old Washington High School. She worked at S.S. Kresges and retired from East Guernsey Schools.
She was a life member of Middlebourne Church where she served as a children’s teacher. She was a past president of their women’s group and also was one of the three women who started the Mother- Daughter banquets. This was the first year she hadn’t been able to attend. She is also a member of the Pennyroyal Ruritan Club and the Modern Woodmen of America.
In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Paul, who passed on February 8, 2021; her brother, Robert Whitsell and sister, Betty Whitsell.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie, of Grove City, whom she has resided with for five years; and her son, Kevin (& Alicia) of Grove City. Also surviving are her three grandchildren whom were her pride and joy, Olivia (& Jared) Sharp of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Savannah Carter of Grove City, and Isaac Carter of the Naval Academy Annapolis, Maryland; one great- grandchild due in August; her first great fur baby, Winn Dixie; a special nephew, Eric (& Kathy) Whitsell of Maryland; a special niece, Chris (& Richard) Molisee of Cambridge; her lifelong friends, Jack and Dot Ankrom of Alabama and their daughter Robin Lavergne of Louisiana.
Visitation will be held at Thorn- Black Funeral Home Cambridge on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with services to follow at 12 p.m. Burial to take place at Pisgah Cemetery. Pastor Karen Rawlins will officiate.
